Hi. I am working on a 3.0L from 2006 that will not start. If I put fuel into the carburetor it will run momentarily. The water separator is about half full. Any ideas ? Thanks.

how long did the boat sit?

my guess is the fuel pump is either not working or the float is stuck

bang on the carburetor with a wrench, the idea is to knock loose a stuck float. Don't dent or break anything. But yeah if that doesn't work, scott is right. could also be filters plugged up even.

Not sure if the Merc electric fuel pump is like the one I had on my Volvo 4.3. On my 95 Volvo the fuel water separator screwed right on to the bottom of the fuel pump. What I found out was that if I changed the fuel water separator and did not fill the new fuel water separator with fuel the the pump would not prime and would not suck fuel from the tank.
Once I filled the fuel/water separator with fuel, no problem, she fired right up.

As Bondo said, the fuel water separator should be full, , as in to the top.

Thanks. Boat sat for the winter. It was the fuel / water separator not being full.
