When the boat was new I brought the boat to the dealer after the boat threw the belt at high speed while turning the steering wheel. Mechanic checked serpentine/pulley alignment (talked of a potential issue Volvo may have had but decided alignment was ok) but then replaced the belt with the new belt that Volvo prescribed (radial design, now new part number). Squeaking that I had in belt went away. Always had and still have rubber dust accumulate over time. The belt throwing situation has not come back until this year (3x) Something tells me alignment has been my problem the whole time and the belt change was a band aide. All pulleys move smooth and are solid without the belt on. Take up has plenty of travel left. Pulleys are clean. With a straight edge the power steering pulley is the only that I question. Looks about 1/8" to bow compared to impeller pulley and potentially angled up (hard to see, slight if any angle) Seems like a slight side bend in the belt as comes to the power steering pulley from alternator.
I've seen other threads very similar to what I have described. Sounds like some have found using a pulley puller to move in on shaft and washers to shim has worked for some. Anyone heard of if this solved the issue long term? Any chance of getting help from Volvo with this issue that doesn't sound isolated to a couple people? Is there a better way to align besides straight edge? I hate to just take this to a dealer and have them start charging me to replace things by process of elimination. Could get expensive...
