I just pulled my boat out of winter storage and fired the engine up and noticed that no water was coming out of the water pump indicator hole. (Engine has not been run since October 07) I have a large tub that I lowered the motor into so that the water intake holes were completly submerged. The motor was bought brand new last year in August and it has only 10-15 hours on it since new. Any ideas? I'd hate to think that the waterpump or impeller went out so soon.

Hopefully the ice will be off the lakes in the next three weeks!!!

Run a small piece of wire up the indicator tube and see if it clears it out. Not uncommon for bugs and such to nest in there over the winter..

These motors are also sometimes notorious for a problem where the grommet that seals the water tube through the adapter plate to the powerhead to become clogged and damaged. Your water pump may be fine but this blockage will seal the motor off from cooling. Clearing the overboard indicator is also a good suggestion.

No bugs in the line....I guess I'll have to bring it to the nearest Mercury dealer and have them check it out. I wonder what would cause it to stop working? It worked fine on my last fishing trip for the year.

I hope that the warranty will cover the work.
