weird thing getting off the lake yesterday turned boat off and it kept running.

kill switch did nothing, turn key on and off did nothing, turn key to start position and then off finally shut off motor.

When I got home the fuel pump was running and the only way to make it stop was to turn off the perko switch or unplug the electric fuel pump.

did an internet search and found this thread.:

https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...t-shut-off-with-key-fuel-pump-runs-constantly

very similar stuff but not exactly.

I do have the chafe in the orange wire coming from the alternator.

My TKS diode tests out as good and working

i was blowing the 20 amp fuse inline to the ignition switch a couple times in the last month but that may be related to the orange wire or I suspect my ignition switch is going bad.

engine serial no 0W369583

could the ignition switch be causing the boat not shutting off and the fuel pump running issue??

i also read some stuff about the oil sending unit keeping the fuel pump running. Is that a possibility.

its raining now so i cant put it on the muffs and recreate for a while.

thank you for any thoughts and advice!

Quit raining so I tossed it on the muffs and unhooked the 4 wires to the alternator.

started fine and ran fine. Kill switch worked also. Engine shut off when key off and no fuel pump continuously running.

12 volts on the gauge. Started and stopped a few times no problem.

hooked up the old cables to the alternator and it started but struggled but ran fine after going volt gage close to 14 but fluttering slightly.

so I take the shorted orange wire out of the equation with some 8 gauge welding wire cable I had and hooked up the alternator again.

started right up and ran fine turned off fine and kill switch fine. Solid 14 volts on gauge.

seems like the orange wire may be the culprit.

not 100% sure of that and still skeptical of the ignition switch.

do you think the shorted alternator wire would cause my recent problems( blowing fuses and engine staying running). Or should I name her Christine and still hunt for gremlins?
