2006 150 hp will not pee at idle until the thermostat opens or if I increase the rpm and force the poppet valve open.Is this normal?I was under the impression the tell-tail should flow under any condition. The dealer mechanic tells me as long as the alarm does not go off I am fine, but a second opinion from a merc tech would greatly appreciated. The motor is a new left over and the warranty is being withheld until I have a n issue to make it last longer,so if this is something I can do myself I will, any thoughts?

Yes he is correct. If plumbed from Tstats to tell tale it will only flow when temp 143+-5deg is reached.Main thing if worried is watch your temp gauge and water pressure.Never rely on alarm alone.
Keep tell tale hole clean. They clog a lot.
