2006 GX205 5.0l Top Speed/prop

I have a new to me 2006 GX205 with a 5.0l GL motor, i'm trying to find what is the top speed i should expect. I currently have a 14.5 x 19 prop and get about 42 MPH. Is the standard or should it go faster? Is the 14.5 x 19 a common prop?

Can't give you much advice on the prop specs. but I've gotten better than that with mine. Obviously depends on your load, but with me and couple kids, I've gotten up to about 48. Don't think I was quite WOT though, so pretty sure I could hit at least 50-52 with it. And you'll want to be sure you're trimmed up as well to get top speed.

There are a lot of discussions regarding prop types on here though. Try searching the forums, or you may want to post in the general boat topics forum. You'll get a lot more responses there on which prop will do what for you.

Thanks, i'm going out soon and check the top RPM's with a timming light , my guage said 4000 I believe it should be 4500-4800.

The max RPM for this engine should be 4800. I believe that is printed on the engine itself somewhere, and the manual will have it too. If you don't have a manual, volvopenta.com has them in pdf format for free.

I have the 2008 GT 205 with the same motor and factory prop 14.5 x 19. I am seeing 50-52 mph trimmed. RPM is 4800-4900.This is with just 2 people in the boat. 4-5 people and speed and RPM's drop.

I would think you can squeeze a little more out of it. My 5.0 is a GXi and ran 52 with a full tank of gas, 6 on board, bimini up, and a massive 3 man tube aired up and bungeed to the swim platform.

Yes dont run like that with your bimini up I was just playing with the trim and the power in that little 270 hp 5.0 gxi surprised me.

you have a nice boat i have the 2004 version of this boat with a carbed 5.0l 220 hp and we get up to 48 with full loaded 2 people tank of gas and gear it seems with a 21piched prop i belev

What is the gear ratio of the volvo outdrive? My merc gear ratio is 1.62. With a 19 pitch prop I can break 50 mph and with a 21 pitch prop I can break 55 mph. You should get similar results depending on how heavily your loaded.
