Re: 2006 Yamaha impleller removal?

do a furum search for V4 water pump replacement.
but the easiest way is to remove the insert from the pump housing and reinstall it on the impeller and use two screw drivers to pry off the collar.
collar and retainer are about 12 dollars so I dont spend much time with them.
fail to reinstall the two flat washers and 1 wave washer then the retainer and coller will lead to a post about gear case knocks in gear after pump replacement.
I posted a bolt by bolt method of water pump replacement for the units that use the lock collar assy along with tips.

Do a forum search for procedure it may help you.

dunno why everyone wants to go off site, the site has some technical inaccuracies anyway. or it did.
I just explained how to get that collar off.
however at the shop your being billed 85 dollars an hour.
how long would you wish I messed with a 12 dollar part on your engine at 85 dollars an hour.
occasionally I find a stuck one that 2 whack with a sharp chiesel corrects. usually I wont even damage the nylon.
its also why I dont rebuild fuel pumps anymore.
time the customer pays the labor and the gaskets he has a new, rebuilt pump.

Re: 2006 Yamaha impleller removal?

yep, still has technical inaccuracies.
depending on what model 2006 you have it can have either 7 or 8 bolts, not including the trim tab holding it on.
reseat the lock collar the way that web site shows and you will most likly post about driveshaft knock.
try to assemble the housing on top of a previously installed cup and you will most likly crush the locator tabs or tear the oring, both can lead to low speed overheat posts.
in the salt pond failure to remove clean and reinstall the rubber dam holder can and usually will lead to low speed over heat posts.
that little rubber slinger just below the pump wear plate needs to be removed, the pocket cleaned, the shaft seals inspected for leaks and broken garter springs then reinstalled.
most the impeller drive keys we take out with a chisel and a hammer,a few I do with oxy\acetylyne.
NEVER drive a steel key into a tight fit with a hammer.
use a brass or AL drift.

Re: 2006 Yamaha impleller removal?

Has anybody been able to find this post by rodbolt, the one with step by step directions?

I really want to read it before I get started, but have searched and read other posts for hours and can't seem to find his step by step post.

Thanks for any help.
