Hi We have an 07 115 Optimax..ran great till last week...at about 2800RPM it suddenly loses power...drops to about 1500RPM....like it's running on two cylinders...and in about 30-60 seconds it gets it's power back....back up to normal revs....and in about ten minutes it does it again...

we had thought it was the guardian system....but no alarm sounds...we changed plugs..no difference...

any ideas?

Thanks for your time!!

Check your fuel + air pressures, air side is 80- fuel is 90psi, You need a gauge that's goes to at least 100psi, with a dump valve. the dump valve is so you can see if you have fuel in the air side of the fuel rail. If this is the case you need to check the tracker valve and fuel pressure regulator. I would put the gauge on the fuel test port and go for test run and see what you get. If this all checks good then you know that it's not fuel or air. When it does do it let it go for awhile, then pull the plugs to see witch one or one's look different. You might have a fuel or air injector that is failing.

*note* unless you have a liquid filled gauge the pressures will pulsate just make sure that you have 80-90.

good luck.

Thanks, woody....we now think it's actually a coil. there was no difference when I removed the bottom plug wire....Have one ordered, so we will see. Internet blogs say the original coils were prone to failure...

Thanks,

I don't think a coil is your problem, 2800 rpms is where guardian is active. I would check the block water pressure fitting. It should be on the back of the block, a gray small hose going to a sensor. Make sure this hose is clear of debris at block too, or possibly cooling problem, I have never seen a problem with a coil on an Optimax.
