I am getting a brand new non current Etec 150 on my boat and am wondering if I would hurt anything by having it programmed for XD50 oil but run XD100? Just for safety sake. Won't cost me that much for a couple gallons a year.

why not have it programmed for what you plan to use?

Re: 2007 ETec 150 --- Oil to use

Looking at different posts and comments have seen some issues with power heads failing. Shops saying loss of lubrication and BRP non fully covering, even when under warranty. It sounds as though when they set for XD100 less oil is used then when set for XD50. This way the oil would be rich using the top of the line XD100. That is why I am thinking would be a type of Insurance policy. Have also read where the 150 HO's can't be set for XD100. If that is true to me they are really go to the edge with the XD100 setting. And I am not interested in maximum speed, super clean exhaust. With the price of these motors I want longevity.

I think it is an error to think you can improve on what an outboard maker specifies for your outboard.

Do what the Owner Manual recommends. . . exactly.

Re: 2007 ETec 150 --- Oil to use

I just got off the phone with BRP service group at 1-847-689-7090. The person I talked to said that would not be an issue and infact that is what he does. He has his set at the xd50 setting but uses xd100 oil. I didn't go into why he did it, but for my piece of mind that is going to be my plan.
