2007 Volvo Penta 5.0GL carb motor..... want to swap to 5.7GXI - what will I run into?

So I have a 2005 5.0GL motor. It's in my 2007 Monterey 214FS. These questions I have are going to seem all over the map, I'm just working on figuring out what direction I want to take. I appreciate any insight you can share:

1. Is this the same engine as a SBC Chevy 5.0? Can I interchange parts with that motor (e.g. supercharger kits, etc)
2. would this engine upgrade easily to fuel injection (e.g. 5.0Gxi) by just changing parts or is it a different shortblock?
3. if I want to swap this to a 5.7GXI would it drop in? What about wiring to my gauges?
4. same question as above, but with a 454 carb motor?
5. if I keep this motor installed, what about a power adder (paxton centrifugal blower? weiand roots blower? nitrous oxide kit?)

I'm coming from a 2005 214FS with a mercruiser 260HP 5L motor, and I'm very concerned about the difference in power (220vs 260) and the general driveability and response of a carb motor vs. efi.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Yes and Forget the supercharger idea.
2. Yea, long block is the same for carbed and MPI
3. Yes, no problem, plug and play
4. No, not easily. You would have to change gear ratio's in the drive, or the conversion to the BB would be a waste of time.
5. Forget it, you need the 5.7, It would do better than a blower on a 5.0.

A 5.0 carbed engine is not 260 hp they are 220. The 5.7 is 260 carbed, depending on the MPI system, it should be in the 300 to 320 range

Hi Don,

Thanks much for answering all my questions.

Why no supercharger - outdrive too weak?

Sounds like the best bet is to either find a 5.0GXI EFI system to install or a 5.7GXi drop in motor. My first choice would be to find a 5.0 efi system used somewhere, that seems to be the easiest to deal with. Would you know any bone yards that might have such an animal used? Do you know what years interchange with the 07 motor or are 5.0 gxi injections all generally the same?
