I have a new 2008 that bogs when i go from idle to full throttle. It is a very slight bog. I checked my set screws and they are 1 1/2 turns out. Everything is clean. Ant Ideas?
1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated is the starting point for idle mixture adjustment.
Once in the water and at idle in Forward gear, continue to adjust the mixture to achieve the BEST idle speed, then back each screw OUT just the width of the blade slot. Make small adjustments and allow at least a minute for any accumulated fuel to burn out and the engine to normalize between any changes. Test by slamming the throttle to WOT, any hesitation or bog then back ea screw out an additional blade width and retest. Repeat as necessary until all traces of hesitation are gone. Done.
The mixture screw is an air screw correct? If i back the screw out i will be adding air, leaning it out. Is that what I want to do? Is the bog from being too rich?
The idle mixture screw on most all Merc/Mariner carbs are fuel passages, out = more fuel, in = less fuel.
1/16 turn is right, it is a very small adjustment, any more may seem to run fine but prematurely fouls plugs with extended idling/trolling, and just wastes fuel.
