My trim will drop after sitting for about a week. I know I have a hydraulic leak, but I took it to the shop and the mechanic automatically says that I need a new hydraulic trim pump for it. Parts and labor will be somewhere in the ballpark of $1,500. My question is if it is possible that there is a leak that can be repaired without needing a new pump? And if so, does it really take 5 hours to repair it?

Two things: First, the trim pump has little valves that can be disassembled and cleaned. I believe there is info on the "STICKY's". Second: Take a look at the o-rings installed where the hydraulic lines connect, located at the outdrive actuators. They could be slowly leaking down. Both could save you $1500 if you do it yourself.

Have had this happen. Please check the trim pump for leaks. It is mounted on the right side of the transom plate. It is probably leaking trim fluid from a little white plug. There is a modified trim pump cover available from Volvo Penta that will correct the issue. Should not cost $1,500 to get this corrected. Luckily I had a failure early on and my dealer was able to work with VP to get corrected.

I have a 2007 (bought in 2008) model with less than 100 hours of running purely in fresh water, the trim pump failed and the dealer told me it needed to be replaced. He also mentioned Volvo admitted this is a design issue but refused to correct it.
