Well, the second half of 2009 has been exciting here - a real roller coster. In July, my first grandchild was born to my daughter ? a grandson.
Then on the last day of August, I underwent surgery to fuse 3 vertebrae. Man, they keep some GOOD drugs at that hospital.
In September, my wife had a stroke, but she?s doing well. She lost no motor functions but did loose a tiny bit of memory. Unfortunately, it wasn?t the memory I would have selected.
In October, I again had to go to the hospital. I snapped off an osteophyte in my hip (spur, nodule, doo-dad resulting from years of osteoarthritis) and thought I?d broken it. Can you say "ice pick in the joint"?
Then last night, just before midnight, my second grandson was born to my son and his wife. All are doing fine and my new grandbuddy has all his fingers and toes. By the doctor?s calculation, he was two weeks early, but I think the doctor was just two weeks late.
I have a .44 lever-action waiting for both grandsons when they?re able to walk.
Maybe during the holiday season, this roller coaster will slow down, or at least let me off. I'm still awaiting those golden years. Two grandsons within four months of each other may help that along.
