96 Merc 200EFI on 18' flats boat, 6" jackplate 23p Temptest eats waterpumps every 3-4 months. It never runs hot I just notice that it won't **** @ idle. Pull the pump and its falling apart in chunks. I don't run the boat on muffs, I try not to run in water less than 3'. I do jack the motor up 3.5" when running. This started after the motor was rebuilt 18 months ago. I do not have a water pressure gauge installed yet but that is coming. What can be causing this? Temps are 125@ idle 140 @ cruise. Can idle for 1/2 mile and temp will never rise but motor is not pissing. I can rev up un neautral and get it to **** and pisses at cruise.

Are you buying the heavy duty Merc OEM replacement impeller? If not go buy one for the next time around. Sand does do a number on impellers.

I have been using the Quicksilver kits. Replacing housing and wear plate every time. $55.00 a pop gets old.

Do you really think that there is that much of a differance in quality between the Quicksilver parts and the Merc. parts.

Same parts, but if you are paying $55.00 for a $24 impeller and $4.56 plate, then you need to change your order method. They even give you a discount for ordering online.
How long does it take you now to make the change out?

Oh, I have got a zipper on it now. I can get it done in about 15-20 minutes if that.
Can you think of anything that can be causing this issue? I am replacing it again this week and am sick of doing this so often. Before rebuild it only was changed yearly for precaution. I have a low Bob's low water pick up on it and was thinking it could be partially clogged. Is there a way of cleaning this?
