200HP Ficht Evinrude - Whining

I have a 1999 200HP Ficht Evinrude. It has run great since I bought it used in 2001. The other day I heard a whining sound come from the engine while trolling at about 1300 RPM. The whining sound would speed up as i sped up the engine. Next day started engine but no whining sound till after I revved it up . Then it started again and did the same as day before. Took cover off engine and sounds like the whining is coming from right side of engine as you stand in boat and look back at the motor. Anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this whining sound ? Thanks.

Just a guess seeing what year it is but, what does your lower unit oil look like and are there any large metal pieces on the drain plug for the lower unit?

It could be sounds from the electric fuel pump running or the noise from the flywheel alternator when it is putting out a lot of power.

The whining sound is different than the fuel pump sound that I hear when i first turn the key and wait for the red lights (computer check) to cycle thru before cranking the engine.

Is altenator about to go bad if that is making the noise ? How can I check it ? Can't isolate noise just by listening and don't feel any vibration.

I'll have my mechanic check the lower unit oil . It was just replaced and have only used boat twice since then......if there is metal what would that indicate ?

If the g/c was just replaced have your mechanic check it anyway. OMC had a lot of probs with those g/c's back in those years. If that's not it the only other time I've heard a good whine from a mtr is when the charging system was screwed up and working to hard as some body else on here already suggested. Wish I was there to hear it. Be interesting.
