Went to the lake yesterday, put the boat in the water and attempted to start the engine. It was still dark and when I hit the key I could hear that the starter was just spinning. I hit the key again, this time while looking back at the engine. Being that it was still dark I could see a orange/red glow coming from a wire. I am guessing this is a ground wire. It is a short wire that is conected at 3 points (on the lower unit shaft in 2 places and to the bottom of the engine, just inside the cover. I'm not sure if the wire was insulated or not or all the insulation was burnt off. Any ideas on what may be causing this.

Thanks,
Tbone

My best guess is loose or dirty ground cable ttermial, from engine to battery.

Thanks for the help! It was a loose ground on the starter.
