Hey guys,

Just bought a boat with a 1992 200hp. Theres nothing broken on the motor, however the motor has been sitting for a year or two. I started the motor before I bought her and she ran her for a few minutes but thats it. The oil tank on the motor is 3/4 full (at least thats what I think it is from opening the lid and peeking in) and the floor is close to empty. Should I just add oil to the bottom tank or should I clean the oil system first? If I have to clean the oil system then im going to have to hook up a spare tank to bleed the main one right? What about replacing the hoses?

Also, the cap on the upper oil tank has 2 wires coming from it. I assume its the oil alarm, its twisted so bad from the previous owner that the coating around the wire is breaking off, Should I cut out the wires and splice new in?

Thanks for you help!!!!

Well, if it has been sitting for that long, You are goin to have to spend some M.O.N.E.Y.

First, all the Carbs need new kits in them and they need cleaned

Second, Replace the waterpump impeller

Third, buy new plugs just so you know how old they are, NGK

fourth, replace all the fuel lines and filters

fifth, replace the fuel pump so you know how old it is

Sixth, drain all the fuel out and replace with new

Six, the oil resivor in the boat should be full to the fill line, (It has one).

Seventh, the tank under the cowl should be completly full, purged of all air,

Eighth, replace the cap on that tank under the cowling.

Ninth, change the lower unit lube.

Do I have to do all of those things, YEP YOU DO.

Oh, and welcome to Iboats, and to the money pit you just bought.

The above statment was a joke, but thats what we all call our boats.
