200hp Oceanrunner hesitation in throttle

I've got a 1987 200hp Oceanrunner with a 225 power head on it. I've put on a new powerpack with new plugs, water seperator and fuel filter. Also replaced the fuel pump a few weeks ago (the non mix type, I premix). It seems to run fine (a bit hard to start at times but from what I've been able to read that can be almost normal) but when shifting forward from idle, if I push the throttle to the wide open position, the rpm's slowly rise and it takes about 20 seconds for the boat to reach full speed. It planes off quick once the rpm's crank up, it just takes forever to take off with the throttle forward. Makes the inlet a bit hairy with the outgoing tide if you know what I mean. Thanks for the help.

The 200 and 225 powerhead are exactly the same either in the small or big bore configuration so dont worry about having something "odd".

That motor should start so quick it'll almost scare you if its right.

Are you still running the 87 ignition and carbs? Since you mentioned changing "a" pack Im guessing you are using an ignition from 1988 or newer.

I'm not sure about the ignition. The powerpack I replaced with an 0586661. A guy at the ramp told me that was my problem when the fuel pump was going out so I replaced it although it wasn't necessary. Now I've got a spare. I'm guessin it's the original carbs but I've owned the motor less than a year. The throttle wasn't a problem a month ago, just don't remember exactly when it happened. It just takes a while to take off. But once it goes, it goes.
