200hp vs 175 hp ??

I have a 1990 22ft aquasport with a 200 hp Mercury on it. I can get a johnson 175hp for it will this be strong enough to push it effeciently? The boat weighs 2900lbs. The 200 has low compression on 1 cylinder.

they are both 1990.

the boat actually weighs 2200lbs not 2900

The 175 is based on the 160 cubic inch crossflow block while the 200 merc is the 149 cubic inch looper. Usually a 25 hp change is worth about 5 mph
