We have a 2012 sea ray with a 4.3 mercruiser. We took our boat out for the first time this year, last weekend. It started giving us alarms so we took it to the marina and had them do a diagnostic scan. All they told me about the report is we had an over heat. Our temp gage was fine the whole time alarms were going off. The report had codes for guardian_manifoldtemp and guardian_active at the time we were out on the water. Does anyone know what these mean or what could need fixed? The people at my local marina were no help to me

Hi there, welcome to iboat forums!

To maybe try and help a little bit better, Would you be able to you post your engine serial number and did they happen to mention what code number/s were present?

A manifoldtemp could be let's say either an Intake manifold temp or an exhaust manifold temp type problem....Any of those sound familiar from them?

Fault #9 is telling you that guardian has gone active to try and protect the engine from further damage.
Fault #326 is telling you that those very expensive exhaust manifolds are getting too hot.

With your engine there are a number of things that can cause this. Because this boat was once a boat club boat, I'm guessing it has a lot of hours on it.

I'm unsure what advice your looking for. Do you want to try and repair this yourself? If so you will need 2 manuals.
MerCruiser manual #49 part number 8M0086113 will have all the info on fault codes and the EFI system.
MerCruiser manual #43 part number 8M0041669 will have the info on the cooling and exhaust systems that you will will need to diagnose whats wrong and instructions on how to repair it. Please understand that these manuals are written for experienced technicians who have attended MerCruiser's classroom instructions after they have taken the prerequisite online training. I'm not trying to say you shouldn't attempt the repairs, just that you go into it knowing that there will be some learning involved. This system is different from older boats.

If your looking for advice on what to do next? Stop using the boat so no further damage occurs and take it to a Certified MerCruiser repair facility.

P.S. Talk to MerCruiser and get this engine package registered in your name so you will get notification of any recalls.
