Has anyone had any problems with this motor? Have they done any design changes or has the motor been the same for the last few years??? Is yamaha actually the one making this motor??? What prop would get the best top end and still get you up on plane on an 18ft may craft at 1400lbs

Re: 2013 115hp yamaha 4 stroke?????????????

Just got rid of my F115, was about 5 years old. Was not particularly happy with it. Low time 220 hrs but numerous short trips. First problem was of my own making. Had a 19 in. pitch prop and was making oil. Going to a 15 in pitch was perfect. My biggest concern and complaint was the tilt/ trim system. Replacing the trim motor first, no help, I managed to snap off 3 bolts securing the trim motor. The trim relay was next that had to be purchased from YAMAHA. Very cheaply made, LIONEL trains could do better, but expensive. Contact points are just tits and dimples pressed into thin copper strips. Easily burned and pitted.
Am in saltwater and have a thing about flushing my motors. Is on a lift so I could not use ears. I used the hose attachment and ran the motor for 10 to 15 mins. after each use. Did this so the thermostat would open and the whole block would be flushed. This was done often as I used the motor often but for short trips. I replaced the impeller before I sold it and it was like brand new. Some people recommend doing this, some dont. That motor made me very reluctant to put a wrench on any YAMAHA bolts which is one of the reasons I got rid of it. Have worked on MERC, OMC and VOLVO PENTA outdrives, never had near the problems as with YAMAHAS. regards FRED
