2015 Mercury 115hp Lower Gear oil level check

Hi all. I am new to the boating world and just did a yearly maintenance on my 2015 Merc 115. All went well but when removing the pump assembly for adding the lower gear oil I found that I lost a bit of oil before I could secure the screw back in. Question is can I check oil level and add additional oil to top off via the top plug?

You fill from bottom.----Put vent plug in.------Then remove filling device and install bottom plug.-----You should only lose a few drops.-------Then you can tilt motor part way and try to add a few drops at the vent screw.
