I recently completed a 300 maintenance on the motor and installed the lower unit it thought correctly. The motor was in neutral when I removed the lower unit. I fired up the motor and its stuck in forward and wont shift. I just took the lower unit off again and everything appeared normal but the same thing happened again when I fired it up.

Ill give it another shot. I discovered that I missed the hole for the shift linkage at some point. I'm guessing turn the shift linkage until the prop free spins for neutral?

Sounds like you need to pull unit off an then Make sure your hand control is in N an make an that the unit is in N. your prop spins free if it don’t then you need to switch it to N with your finger. Now when you install this time before you even put a bolt in just spin prop to make sure it’s still free. Most likely you just bumping it while putting it in.

I prefer putting the L/U in F (the shifter needs to be in F too) that way when the D/S meets the coupler you just give the prop a gentle twist, like a glove. Just make sure no grease is on top of the D/S+Hydrolock=Bad
