Boat mechanic questioned me on my oil change frequency. I told him I changed it prior to bringing it to him. Upon further inspection he found sludge near the oil sump and it was partially blocked. He also removed several large chunks of plastic from around the sump. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening? We were thinking it was a something from the factory. The motor has 320 hrs with and I have done 3 oil changes. Thank you.

Hope OB guys will be along shortly

I'm trying to look up your motor, but it would help if we had the serial number. Having that will allow us to look up the parts breakdown. and if something like that is even inside the crankcase

What does " from around the sump " mean ?------Are you saying this stuff was inside and submerged in the oil ?-----What does " sludge near the oil sump ? actually mean here.-----You changed the oil and this shop finds sludge ?????

The plastic pieces might be a cover for the timing chain. They were blocking the oil from completely draining out and sludge was forming. Everything was cleaned out and the up and running. A merc dealer is researching it. no idea how long it was down there but he said the sump was half way filled with sludge
