Hi

Just a quick one to ask if I’m right in thinking that there is a known issue with these engines not holding trim position and the pump passing to allow the engine to drop over a short period of time at rest, and also not hold a trim position when under load. I’ve now read a few reports of trim units being replaced under warranty on these. Mine has always creeped down a little under load and relieved pressure when at the very upper trim limit wot.
now the boat is back in water, it’s twice as bad. Is this just the shuttle valves that are the known failure..or the whole thing needing replaced.
Any info appreciated, before I go any further.

Moot point being you are who you are, but surely you have the sump full and have burped the unit. Idle question: Since Merc has been making such for decades, and the CT is just the lower unit from a different series of engine which has probably been built for decades, I don't understand why they would all of a sudden develop a problem on this particular product.

Hi texasmark.

yeah. First thing I looked at. Also made sure the manual release screw was good too.
yeah, I initially thought the same, but there is definitely accounts of pumps on these engines, when they first came out in about 2014 onwards, having been replaced under warranty. My friendly mercury guy reckons it’s an issue with the shuttle valve not sealine or holding.

Should have added, it’s mercury new made in house 2.1 motor. But get your point about why the trim pump is likely been around a while longer ?

It's 6 PM here, Central (USA) Daylight Time. I think you are 6 hours ahead of me putting you at noon? Reason for the comment, you came back in a matter of minutes......I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford for a bit back in the 60's....had a nice pub in Lower Heyford. Wink!

Guess I can't be of help.

Haha. It was about midnight texasmark. Just going to bed then. 9:20 now, as I write this.

I don’t know that area I’m afraid. I’m north of the border in God’s own country....the glorious west coast of Scotland (when it’s sunny).
