hey everyone!
I have about a 1979 mercury 20hp outboard.
When you twist the tiller control the throttle seems to bind.I have tried several things to stop the bind such as unhooked linkage,cleaned inspected the throttle it self.All worked individually.There is a linkage between the top of the pivot arm and to something under the flywheel.When i remove this link it works smoothly.What is under the flywheel that causes tis drag?any help will do, thanks

Under the flywheel, I believe, is your timing advance ( dont know the technical name, but it advances your timing so the engine will run at full speed). But you have to have it there.

is there a chance there was a change in the mechanism that operates the timing advance,perhaps merc improved this style in a later model that will bolt up to this one?
let me know!!
