21* or 18* 1986 merc 115 inline 6

So i have did the link and sync procedure based on the directions i found here on iboats. Between that and my manual i have it idleing great and hittin hard at wot.

I know i don't and didn't go past 21* while setting it and i have read about detonation and want to avoid that, im slightly under 21*.. slightly.


My question is.. I have NO idle stab and saw 2 different number for max advance.. i have seen @ cranking 21* and 18*, i am running 87 octane pump gas and wondering what the correct number is.

I recommend setting at 21*BTDC while cranking at full throttle.
