22 Foot CC Express/wind question

Buddy of mine is looking at buying a 22' center console express HD series boat (68" bottom; 98' beam). He fishes a lot on Toledo Bend and is moving up to a bay style boat.

He knows that, while on plane, this boat will take the choppy water better than a standard bass rig. His only concern is the wind while stationary.

Specifically, if we are on a point in 20 mph winds (which are significant and frequent on Toledo Bend), how much trouble will he have holding that boat in place compared to an 18 foot Skeeter. The boat is relatively light for its size. Will its length overshadow its width and hull design?

The boat does have an 80lb trolling motor and an 8' power pole.

I think it will do fine. What say ya'll?

Re: 22 Foot CC Express/wind question

if it's the "bay boat" design it shouldn't be much different--wind affects what's above water. A high-floating boat like a carolina Skiff is a sail and hard to keep still. If it's a deep V CC with a good flare (like a grady) it will be a sail, too.

A friend has a 21' bay boat he fishes open water with and loves his bow-mounted trolling motor with remote and GPS steering. He has caught a world-record striper on a fly rod in it, if that will tempt you.

20 mph sustained is a lot of wind for a bay-boat design, so if those are the conditions on the whole body of water you might not be going. But your post suggests it's just an isolated spot.
