Does anyone have any comment how a 22' Islander handles compared to a Chieftain. I have a 1971 Islander with a 140 hp 4 cylinder mercruiser. The Chieftain I am considerind buying is a 1975 with a 165 hp 6 cylinder.

Thanks for the imput.

Boy mc, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a guy who has owned and operated both. Especially since they are just about the same basic boat.

Here would be my guesses...

The Chief would give you a little better performance as she has 25 more horses. Not a lot as the Chief is a bit heavier boat.

The Chief would give you about two more feet of cabin space and ton more head room in the cabin.

The Chief would have about two feet less deck space to accommodate for the cabin.

I'd guess, in a cross wind, the Chief would blow around a little more as these boats are light and she has a bigger sail (cabin top).

All purely speculation on my part but I'd say that would be about the only real differences.

Is the Islander not suiting your needs?

The Islander is great I really like it alot. I wuold just like to have a chieftain because it has a bigger cabin. It would also be nice to have a choice of which one I wanted to use for the day, in a perfect world.
