225 or 229 omc??

i have a 1984 3.8l omc engine..because of prvious owner lack of maintenance last winter block froze and cracked......want to drop another motor in but not sur i have the 225 or the 229 engine.....the bore for the 225 is 3.75.....and supposetly the bore for the 229 is 3.80....is there any other way of finding out????<br /><br />thankssssssss

i have measured the piston bore at 3.75....but im not sure the information which was given me was correct......imready to order rebuilt motor but need to be shure order correct one THANKS

It's a 229. Same bore and stroke as the 305, they just took 2 cylinders off.<br /><br />Tom
