I have a problem that I can't figure out with my motor. The engine will run fine for about 25 minutes with good throttle response. The issue usually arises when the boat goes to idle for a bit or clutch ahead.

After trying to run again after idling for a while the engine wont go above 2000 rpms and seems to be bogging down. The engine will race at idle after restarting and usually dies when I put it ahead. It ran fine last summer after replacing the entire ignition system and timing belt.

I can hardly get it started again after it dies. I have to move the distributor around just to get it to kick over and then move it back to a semi normal position. I'm not too sure whats wrong with it, the only thing we have not touched is the carb. Any input would help, I know it sounds like a broad problem.

good compression on all cylinders as well. engine operates in the 180 to 190 temp range.

Check your fuel filter, it sounds like it is starving for gas to me, I always check the cheap things first. Good luck
