Quick question from newbie,

I just purchased a hummingbird fish finder but it is a 12 volt device. I only have 24 volt batteries on the boat. Can I use this device with these batteries? The manual says I should be using a 12 volt with a 1 amp fuse. What can I do to make this work? Thanks.

Re: 24 volt vdc and 12 volt fish finder

I really doubt that you have any 24 volt batteries, Ray. You have 2 12 volt batteries connected in series to make 24 volts. I am certain that you don't start your engine or run your lights and other electronics on 24 volts.

Run a power line to the sonar unit from the + lead of the 12 volt battery that has its + lead connected to the - lead of the other battery. Then run the ground (-) lead to the - lead of that same battery.

Actually, you show a dangerous lack of understanding of your electrical system. Maybe it would be better to have a pro install your sonar and have him show you how and why he does it.
