I have a 14' marine fisher with evinrude trolling motor on it. Broke prop and of course obselete. Guy across town has a 65 thrust 24v bow mount foot controlled .I am looking for a trolling motor that will pull me up river in moderatre currents at decent trolling speed. IS the 24 a bit much for my 14' or is it just a better electrical system?

Re: 24v or 12v for 14'

You might get some different opinions about this. What I can say is I have a 14' 6" tri hull. I run a 28 pound trolling motor on a standard 12 volt system. The boat is still somewhat new to me and I've not had it on the water as much as I'd like. But when the outboard wouldn't start, that 28 pound moved the boat with two adults and two kids in it. 65 pounds of thrust and 24 volts sounds like a lot for that boat. That said, a little overkill never killed anyone... :)

If price is right and you don't mind buying 2 batteries and maintaining them...why not.
Theres also weight of the 2 batteries and a place to put them to think about.
Price and how good of shape it's in....
