I recently bought some parts online including an ignition kit. my problem is I dont recognize the parts on the motor but they could be located in a place I wouldnt see them. the kit says it "replaces OMC 172523. the site I bought them on had them listed for my motor but it might be one that has a different ignition design. here is a link to the part. http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...=498935632&search_in_category=f&view_id=45207

That's it all right. You see that part number below it, 18-5002? That's the Sierra part number. Sierra Marine is the company that makes/distributes the outboard parts Iboats sells.
Here's the application chart from Sierra:
http://ww2.sierramarine.com/catalog_pdf_8024/Sierra_8024-153.pdf

Those parts are all underneath the flywheel. Have you got the manual, puller, feeler gauge, and torque wrench you'll need for the job already?

thats what I suspected. 18-5002 yes. My friends have a torque wrench. Is it hard? I rebuilt the carb and put a new recoil spring on so I have a little knowhow but its all new to me. I have a manual (clymerb732) but dont see it inthe book. whats gonna be involved in putting it back together? will I have toreset the timing or anything? I dont have a puller unless a faucet handle puller would work nor do I have a feeler. are they hard to comeby? thanks for the info.
