This week I was at the dock and the boat started with the throttle wide open. The throttle wasn't responding and it moved up and down very freely. I opened the hood and head a small splash in the water. Where the throttle control links to the motor, something fell off. The throttle control lever meets up to the rest of the throttle control going into the motor. But I cannot figure out what holds them together. Perhaps a spring or a bushing. Does anyone have clear picture of how they join together? All of the pictures I have seen online have it obscured. The repair manuals and parts listing drawings don't show how they join. Only separate. This is all that's stopping the boat from being active again. Thanks for reading!

There should be a silver metal clip that is attached to the cable, it swings over the pin on the motor connection and keeps them together. Sorry but I don't have one here ATM to snap a picture of for you.

Just looked and the OMC part number is 0310729 and it's about $11.00 depending on where you can get it.

Actually it might be this part. The one you referenced is at the sending unit. My issue is between the throttle control lever, which is by the tiller handle in the motor, and connects to another linkage.

Go to that same site and look under 1972 remote control, find parts breakdown for that and look at item #40. That is where I got the part number from.
