What are the differences between a 25 and 35 horse Johnson(mid 80s) other than carburation? I own one of each but the 25 is in superior condition and was wondering if the block porting or possibly the exhaust tuner was different. It would be sweet and easy to simply swap carbs to make the 25 into a 35 but somehow that just seems to be too easy. Any insight into this would be much appreciated....Cmack

Re: 25 hp / 35 hp differences

You also have to consider what years the motors are. The 35 hp became the 30 hp once OMC started prop rating hp in the mid to late 1980's. Does the 25 hp have thru-hub exhaust? In 1985, OMC switched to thru-hub on the 25 hp. You won't see much difference between the thru-hub 25 hp and the 35 hp. Also, do you even have the same base block? IF you have an older 1960's-70's 25 hp you are SOL as its a different block altogether. First identify what years you have, then check the parts catologues at BRP to determine what you need.
