25 hp evinrude no fwd gear.........somtimes

i have a 69 evinrude 25 hp works fine in reverse but somtime when i engage fwd nothing any ideas?

Have you had the lower unit off recently? Are you using remote controls on the engine?<br /><br />I am not a mechanic but this happened to me once and the culprit was during a water pump replacement my “Helper” noticed that the shift rod was not screwed in all the way. So he screwed it in thus messed up the length of the shift rod. I think it would only shift into reverse but not forward after that.<br /><br />Also check for water and contaminates in your gear oil.<br /><br />Mac

I havnt been in the lower unit yet but i just got the motor last week so i am not sure when it was opened up last , i changed the oil in the lower unit also it is a tiller <br />how would i go about adjusting the linkage?

Manual will give you a length dimension to adjust the shift rod with a relatively tight ± tolerance. Check to see if rod might be bent out of original shape. You should feel detents when motor is snapped into forward and reverse.<br />Good Luck
