Ok, here's the scoop. Just converted a 1975 25 hp Evinrude outboard from a long shaft to a short shaft. Put the new driveshaft, shift lever, bolt, and driveshaft spacer in. Started it up in the tank and runs great, shift functions properly as well. Left the old water pump in there (took this job from a friend) however, I know if it were my outboard I would have just replaced the water pump having already been in there (good practice). With that said, this really wasn't pumping water (exhaust housing water outlet, has no tell tale). I threw it on the muffs to see if I could get it to force some water out of there (to try to narrow down a folded grommet or plugged orifice) and did get some minor spray out the exhaust housing outlet hole. Put it back in the tank and nothing. Can I be lead to assume that since I did get some water to come out when on the muffs, that the water had to pass through all the canals meaning that there shouldn't be anything plugging it? My assumption is a new water pump kit, but just want a second opinion on my reasoning.
