hi all new to the board just bought a sea nymph with a 1977 25hp evinrude seams to have some carb issues when running in a barrel of water seams to idle then backfire and shuts down,also getting alot oily water after running a short time the boat sat 4 2yrs so carb rebuild and cleaning mybe inorder also milky gearoil in lower thanx for any info!

milky gear oil= water in it, may be seals, may just be someone too cheap or uninformed who failed to replace the lil washers for the oil fill and drain plugs.
after 4 years of sitting I would suggest you rebuild carb to clean out the varnish, likely backfiring is a lean sneeze.
