25 HP Johnson Firing Problem

I have a J25RESB and it has set up for two years (had a baby and didn't get a chance to take it out last year). Got it out and tried cranking but no luck. Hooked up an inline spark tester and neither coil is firing. Thought it could be rust on magneto. Took flywheel off and the main coil and magneto's look relatively clean. Anyway to test each part of the ignition system? Thanks in advance!

That one has the Under Flywheel Ignition System. Since it doesn't spark on either coil, the external coils are unlikely to both be bad at the same time. That leaves two parts under the flywheel. You can test the driver coil for resistance and grounding with a multimeter. The CDI module either works or it doesn't work. OR---there could be a problem with the kill switch. Disconnect it and check for spark.

Maybe check your kill switch and make sure the wires are not bare or broken. Also if you have a lanyard make sure it is placed correctly in the kill switch.

Thanks! I'll have to check all that out after the holiday weekend. Have a great 4th!

Also check your breaker points for being good and clean.

I don't think it has breaker points. Either that or I'm looking at the wrong motor.
