have a 1983 25 hp Mariner, (Japanese made) I just had the carburator
re-built as it would not idle at low speed and is extremely hard to start.
Even after having the carb rebuilt it is still hard to start and at high
speed and now at low speed it wants to cut out on me. at the low speed it
seems that it is not getting the proper amounty of fire. Could it be the
coil? I bought this boat and motor used so I do not know a lot about it.

I checked the plugs, they are new but it appears that there may be some (slight) moisture on the bottom plug, i also checked the fuel filter, it is clean, in looking at the engine block behind the fuel filter area it appears to be some mositure there too, but i am not sure that it is water.

1. FUEL--Try a new fuel line, and when you’re running it at ¼ - ½ throttle and it tries to cut out try squirting some premix into the carb, NOT A WHOLE LOT, see if it picks up. Use an oil type can pump type. 2> SPARK---- Pull plugs wire-INSULATE YOURSELF WELL ( one at a time) short between plug connector in wire and spark plugs head (screwdriver) about 3/8” gap, as running watch spark jump, should be constant and forceful at idle…. Two things in order to have combustion….John
