25 HP merc lower gearbox removal

[AGCB]

I have a 25 HP mercury og191030 and want to replace the impeller. After removing bolts it comes down about 1 inch but no further. Seems to be either the shift shaft or the drive shaft that wont let go. Before I break something, help me please.

PS I had to reregister w/ my wife's email because I could not get in the forum, even after having reset the password

Have you removed the shift shaft retainer at the upper end?

The service manual you require is P/N: 90-826883. If you do not have this manual, see my message to you in Notifications at the top of this page.

If you need to see a picture of the retainer, you will find it under Section 6A, Lower Unit of the service manual.

Put the lower end back up slightly. look under the carb, you will see it.
