25 HP Merc yr????

Picked up a super clean 25 HP long shaft Merc today. guy said it needed fuel pump work. Has ser no. 6185918, can anybody verify year. And how do I go about checking the fuel pump out. I took a peek at it appears to be part of the carb. Thanks

The bulb on the hose is a manual fuel pump.-----It simply fills the carburetor for starting.----If motor starts and quits after 15 seconds try again.-----And if motor keeps running when you operate the bulb you have proven that fuel pump on the moor is not working.----Or there are no crankcase pressure pulses to operate the pump.----Could be the wrong gasket between carburetor and motor !
