2500 max rpm

I ran my boat today 91 70 hp johnson ran great most of the morning then when going to another spot it would not run over 2500 rpm. seemed like something was killing the spark? I checked bulb it was tight. finally took off and ran fine. new carb kits, fuel pump, good compression, may be time for a waterpump though??? any ideas??

Maybe something just got tangled in your prop causing the problem. Just a thought if it ran fine before and afterward. If you think it's time for a waterpump or it has been more than 2 years, then I would put one in. I may be way off here, but it happens...Why do you think something was killing the spark?

It felt as though cylinders were cutting out, may be it was fuel starvation I am going to look at the plugs as soon as the rain lets up??? VRO removed?

Not sure, but does this motor have S.L.O.W. ?

the horn hits when you hit the Key motor is fairly new to me

SlOW is a system that when your engine overheats, it automatically drops it's RPM's to 2500, so as not to fry the engine. sounds like you need a waterpump after all. Unless something was temporarily blocking your lower unit water intakes.

plugs looked good top plug looks better than lower two will try to run again over weekend and see what happens Does this motor have S.l.o.w. on it??? 91 johnny 70 hp g0263321

hey guys im having the same problem with my 95 200 oceanrunner...my water pump is new though?? i still cant figure this problem out either

I've only seen S.L.O.W. in operation once,and can best describe it as the outboard was trying to throw itself off of the transom (1987 Johnson 70HP).Replaced the WPI and ran normal.Does this desciption fit?<br />DHP

no, doesn't really fit, my situation at lest, but replacing the WPI does sound like a pretty good idea
