250hp efi - how to figure out year

i'm going to look at a boat this weekend with a 250hp efi on it. it's a 2001 boat bought new in 2002. when i look at the engine, how can i quickly tell if it's a 2001 or 2002? something to look for in the serial number?<br /><br />thanks-

If it’s a newer unit it will say the year right under the serial number.
