Hello, hoping I can find some help. I am working on a 1975 Model Chrysler 25HP outboard that has no spark. This is the basic magneto style ignition system with the coils on the stator plate under the flywheel. The coils seem to test out good with an Ohmmeter at around 7K Ohms. I have cleaned the points a couple times with a points file and contact cleaner. When I test the 2-wire stop wire coming from the stator, I am getting continuity between the 2 wires at all times. This seems incorrect as I would expect to read them as "open" and close the contact with a switch to kill the engine? Am I correct? There was no switch connected, I'm just testing the terminals of the wires. If I take either one of the coil wires off the points terminal, I get an open reading on the kill wires. Do I have a coil shorted to the stator plate? Also, on the point terminals, which wires should be connected to which side of the isolation plate? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
