25hp evinrude will not spark!!!!!!

i was riding on the lake and i slowed down and then it just died and would not crank up. i got home changed the spark plugs and found that it wasent sparking what do i do?????

Replace the power pack.If that doesn't work,tell us what year the motor is.And we'll try again.<br />DHP

sea nymph - You need to troubleshoot to find the source of the problem and the best way to do that is by buying the OMC shop and parts manual for your motor. You can spend a bundle repalcing this and that without solving the problem.

Hiya,<br /><br />you've got some good advice so far. <br /><br />1) check that your kill switch and/or lanyard switch is so equiped are OK (not shorting out the ignition). <br /><br />2) As has been said, go get a manual ASAP and go through the troubleshooting the ignition section. <br /><br />3) It might be a tall order to get an ignition problem sorted out and fixed by the weekend, especially if you're not experienced with wrenchin'. Have you tried calling a shop? Maybe they'd set you up with a loaner motor for the weekend if you gave them the repair business?<br /><br />By the way, it's considered bad form to start a 2nd post on the same subject. It scatters the conversation out for no reason.... also makes you look impatient. <br /><br />Hope this helps.<br /><br />Brent

Hi Seanymph 18<br /><br />You can try the easy ones first. The wire from the kill switch ( Yellow/black colour ) on my 25 Hp once wore through just below the carbs, and sparked to ground, killing spark. Try to locate and follow that wire, it is not routed same way if your have remote or tiller. Disconnect it at next plug from powerpack, which is the black box, sending current to the two ignition coils. If spark comes back you have a bad switch or a short somewhere.

I think it is the kill switch messing up but i really dont know how to check it. The only thing i saw that looked like a black box was the starter silanoide. I used a volt meter to see if i was getting and power to the coils and i had none what so ever but thank you for trying to help me and if u think of anything else just let me know im willing to try anything
