Anyone have a 25hp on a 16ft bass boat (decks, trolling motor, etc.)? I?m switching motors with my pontoon and will be going from a 70hp Yamaha to a 25hp. I?m concerned it will not go on plane.

Can't say if it will go on plane or not, but that's really underpowered. The bass boat will have a lot of weight. What is the boat rated for?

You may want to paddle to help that motor out a little...

I'd say that it'll be slow BUT I bet it will plane out and run ok with the right prop

My dad had a 60 on a tracker 18.5 alum bass boat and it ran out quite well at 1/2 throttle

Thanks for the replies everyone. It’s rated for a 70hp

This will be my beater boat so if it will go on plane I’ll be happy.

If the boat's aluminum I agree that it should plane with a 25. FWIW, my fishing boat is a sixteen with a 25. It's a john without decks, but it's a rocket.

I have now had 2. The previous one was a 14' Lund SC that weighted 265lbs dry, unloaded. Rated for a 35hp. Ran OK with an 18hp Evinrude tiller as long as I was alone in the boat. 2 people really slowed it down. With a 35hp on it was a bat-out-of h_ll.

Now have a 16' Alumacraft Classic 16, loaded. Trolling motor, 2 batteries, live well, 4 pedistal seats, rod locker. This boat is rated for a 75hp and dry weight is 560lbs. I have a 60hp Johnson 2 cyclinder on it and have seen many with only 40's on them. I would hate to have to try and use this with a 25hp on it.

Not to say it can't be done but even with the biggest prop with the smallest pitch it's going to struggle. Would be like a 14' Lund Rebel or Alumacraft Lunker with a 8hp on it.
