Hi all, I have a 1988 25Hp Evinrude Outboard. I'm getting it ready for the summer, so I decided to run it in my driveway with the flusher ears on it. It runs good at idle and when I give it throttle it revs high and sounds good like you would expect. Then all of a sudden it boggs out. If I decrease the throttle back to idle when it boggs it will stay running, if not it will stall. I rebuilt the carb a month ago and took it apart today to recheck it and it's fine.
I pulled the plugs to check them and they were wet.
Any ideas? Thanks...

Re: 25Hp Stalling

Springbok.....First off it's not a good idea to rev a motor above 1500-2000 rpm on the muffs. Secondly how old is the gas in the tank? Also when you rebuilt the carb did you soak it in a parts cleaner for a while and then blow everything out with compressed air before reassembling? And did you do a link and synch after re-istalling it. You really can't tell what it's really doing unless you run it with a load on it in gear, you should try to get it on the water, maybe have to wait a month or so.

I did soak the carb in cleaner and blew out all the ports. What is a link and sync?

Springbok.....a sync and link gets the timing in tune with the throttle plates.

If you run the engine at high rpms out of the water, the engine could run away or do itself some damage.
