I am a first time boat owner and iboats user. I have spent some time researching the forum here and still have some questions.
What are the different methods of determining if a motor is running near peak power output? RPM? Boat speed? I understand that boat speed would be dependant on a number of variables. The reason for this question is my combinations of the S14 DLX including three swivel seats, a 150lb captain, 200+ lb passenger riding in the middle, stock prop, deep cycle battery in the far front, does not seem to get on plane. I have no recent experience to judge if this is normal or if the motor is not outputting peak power.
Before my first outing, I replaced s.plugs and lower unit oil. I have not yet cleaned the carburetor, de-carbed the engine, checked ignition coils, checked ignition timing, checked compression, made adjustments to the motor trim angle or rebuilt the water pump. All of those things were claimed to be in good working order at the time of purchase a week ago.
The motor starts and slow-idles well, and operates at WOT, without any other indications of malfunction.
The ideal response to this message is that I have provided enough information for those with experience to judge if this motor and boat combination should easily get on plane. If it should I will continue with typical "lacks power" diagnostics and repair as needed.
Thanks in advance for any help
